Think Malta Holiday Is Too Good to Be True? We Have News for You

Malta is a charming and majestic Mediterranean island about 50 miles south of Sicily. This island has an enticing laid-back vibe, subtle beauty, and activities (or lovely areas to relax and do nothing) to keep you entertained and amazed. Whether you’re exploring the historic city, Segway riding your way through the tiny alleyways of Valletta, or savouring the gourmet cuisine on offer, you’ll leave Malta wanting more.

What makes Malta so impressive?

Valletta, the capital of Malta, is constantly crowned as one of the best cities in the world, with accolades coming from the likes of Condé Nast Traveler’s Readers’ Choice Awards. The capital has a striking balance between an ancient city with a twist of modern vibrancy, and it is set between two harbours, where you get breathtaking views on either side.

The fact that Malta is relatively untouched by other visitors will hit you as a visitor. Expect to see a few tour buses or masses of tour groups on the streets. And whether you’re into learning history or tasting new foods, you’re in for a treat.

Before declaring independence in 1964, Malta was colonised by the Phoenicians to the British — a rich history prominent around every turn. You might easily spend hours roaming about and admiring the city’s medieval and Baroque architecture, as well as prehistoric sites. The country’s capital has rightfully earned the UNESCO World Heritage Site title.

Let’s talk about how good Maltese cuisine is

The finest and most traditional Maltese eateries may be found in Valletta, with restaurants serving up their meal with an authentic twist to all the flavours. Due to the necessity of importing most of its food, Maltese cuisine was exposed to international influences. This is reflected in the significant

Italian, as well as those of Spanish, French, Provençal, and other Mediterranean cuisines, with a blend of British culinary influence in later years.

If you want to pair some exquisite canapés with a glass of champagne for lunch, surrounded by beautifully manicured gardens in Malta’s small slice of heaven, overlooking the city from a balcony, then look no further than the luxurious Phoenicia Malta. PR and Marketing Manager Christine Darmanin added, “We are happy to be recognised as Malta’s most iconic hotel, as both a landmark and a luxury hideaway, treasured by islanders and appreciated by visitors.” This spot unquestionably offers nothing except extravagance.

To enrich your evening eating experience, Briju, selected for the 2023 Michelin Guide Malta, is a restaurant that serves mouthwatering food cooked with the freshest ingredients for dinner. Some of the delightful touches whilst dining include Seabass Ceviche with split herb oil poured over with creamy & divine buttermilk, complimenting your dish with sourdough bread produced in-house, combined with one of the island’s top local olive oils. The outstanding hospitality will enhance your dining experience.

If you’re brave enough and would like to try something that is widely regarded as the national dish, then try the Maltese stewed rabbit (stuffat tal-fenek), to truly give a genuine culinary experience during your time in Malta.

You will be astonished

Here’s another plus if you’re seeking a memorable connection with the community. Look out for the legendary busker, Benny. Benny is so well-known that everyone in Malta will know who he is if you ask them. He’s appeared on television, and one of his extraordinary skills is the ability to sing in any language. If you approach him, Benny will ask you, “What languages can you speak? Tell me because I can sing in any of the languages.” If you ask him to sing in Hindi, he will sing a Bollywood classic. If you ask him to sing in Romanian, he will sing you a Romanian classic.

His memory is so amazing that if you return years later, he will remember you and greet you, saying, “I remember you from last time. I will sing you the same song.” Benny is near a well-known American fast-food establishment at the heart of Valletta’s street. Seeing him and having him play a song for you is worth the trip to Malta.
